Answer 4:

Discipline and subordination are important for swift execution of decision taken at higher level in the organisation. It provides direction and policy guidance to the employees in the organisation. Discipline ensures compliance and ensures organised work. However, in an organisation, it is equally important to allow diverse views, complaints, feedback for all processes.

Over-discipline can be counter-productive in multiple ways. It discourages subordinates to raise questions and their concerns with respect to decisions taken at higher level. It forces them to work against their conscience and intuitiveness which leads to inefficiency. On the other hand, allowing subordinates to speak provides critical analysis, research and feedback for the processes and products.

An organisation requires flexibility and bottom up approach. For an organisation, although policy decisions and direction is to be decided at the top, there needs to be enough autonomy at lower levels to provide scope for a feedback loop.

Answer 2:

Anti-defection provisions under Article 101, 191 of the constitution have been added through 52nd Amendment Act. The provision provides for disqualification of a siting member on acting against the whip of the party or defecting from the party on whose ticket the member was elected.

The provisions have sometimes helped the defectors because of subjectivity involved in decision making. The powers reside in the office of the Presiding officer of the respective house which can lead to misuse of power. However, Supreme Court in Hollohan case have brought the decision under Judicial review.

Why it should be amended?
– It curbs the free voice of the member, curbs dissent in the party and has led to decline of legislatures
– Members instead of working in the interest of their electorate works for their party

Administrative Reforms Commission has recommended to provide decision making powers to President and Governor working with the advice of Election Commission of India. Law commission has recommended relaxation for trivial matters. It is only for certain matters that whip should be applicable. Thus, amendment should be done to ensure a healthy working of legislatures as temples of democracy.

Hi Kunal,
-Your introduction seems a bit contradictory….Anti-defection as a provision has been added in Xth schedule of the constitution in 1985, this amendment brought changes in four articles of constitution Article 101, 102, 190, 191…which relate to the vacation of seats and disqualification from membership of parliament and the SLA…
So, Defection is mainly mentioned in schedule Xth…
-You have mentioned only one defects of the provision…bring more…
-Also mention advantage of loopholes by speakers…no time limit, biasness…though this can be tackled in judicial review…but still a initial hurdle…
-Conclusion is good…

Overall, good attempt….some changes in introductory point may improve the quality of this answer…
Nice approach…keep writing…

Answer 1:

Paintings of all the times have reflected the socio-cultural and political culture of the times. Mughal introduced the Islamic style and traditions in Indian painting styles.

– Mughals introduced miniature paintings
– Paintings showed royal courts, hunting scenes and portraits of kings to reflect grandeur and higher royal status
– Portraits had halo around the heads of kings which reflected their divine origin and provided legitimacy to their rule
– Many paintings of the time reflect calf and lion siting beside each other under the throne of the king. This shows how people from various religions of the time were living happily under single rule
– The paintings reflected Muslims beliefs of not picturing God and showed God through symbols only.
– The paintings found from Mughal period have separate regional cultures as well. The Nawabs of Hyderabad, Nawabs of Awadh, Himachal, Rajasthan, Malwa had separate cults of paintings.

Thus, Mughal paintings reflect socio-cultural and political culture of the medieval period. It reflected in grand royal court paintings, religious diversity, hunting scenes reflecting the higher status of kings. It reflected the politics of the time in a multi-religious society, wars between kings etc.

Hi Kunal,
-First of all I would like to suggest that…please write answer on sheet of paper with proper format…then upload the image by clicking picture…practicing on paper will benefit you in actual exam and you will be able to pin-point the number of words, calculate the speed of writing etc…which matters most in examination hall…
Unfortunately, UPSC does not provide us the keyboard to type our answers…
—————————————————————————————————————-
-Introduction is okay….but very short…Mughal paintings were a unique blend of Indian, Persian and Islamic styles….also bring example if possible…
-Points are very good…ideas are well presented…well written answer…nice attempt…well done…keep it up

-Point 2, 3, 4 require clarity…
-The rest of the points are okay…
Overall, you answer is good…but exceeded the word limit…avoid repeating ideas and words. Need to articulate sentences…

Hi Sandeep,
-Reserve of idea and content are the basic requirement for any answer…However, If you wish to refer the notes, or other sources for getting knowledge about the topic, will be vital for you to remember and develop points…
Yeah, you can refer the various sources before writing…will serve the two purpose…one revision, and second will bring confidence in you for moulding ideas…
Refer the source, then close them, then mould the ideas as per the requirement of topic asked…

Ans-1- The Mughal paintings are one of the most unique style of painting with carried themes, colour, precision, indolence and pallettes. As an extension of the Persian naturalized painting of the Delhi sultans till the reign of Humayun, it has switched over to the “Indian Influence” of naturalistic style in the reign of Akbar furthermore to “European Influence” of artificial nature in Shah Jahan’s reign.
Key features of Mughal paintings:
1) Mughals introduced miniature painting Which focused more on the precision of line drawing and intricate designs.
2) Introduction of the foresightening technique under which objects are drawn more closer and smaller than they actually are.
3) The Mughals paintings are known for glorifying the crown and the royal dynasty rather than praising the gods or drivindep the life of masses.
4) Various changes in styles and techniques under various rulers were introduced. The introduction of 3 dimensional elements and calligraphy on paintings was done by Akbar. The introduction of magnificent borders and the change of theme from usual courtroom scenes to natural wild Flora and fauna was done by Jahangir. The addition of artificial elects like gold and silver decreasing the loveliness if a painting was done by Shah Jahan.
Themes reflected in the paintings:
Unlike the contemporary paintings of other schools of arts depicting God’s, the Mughal paintings takes more about the life events of the Emperor and his royal family. Paintings depicting the royal couple, hunting, the Emperor in a garden, courtroom were prominent rather than depicting lives of the masses.
Hence the Mughal paintings have distinguished itself in the world and in Indian culture as one of the richest and most unique styles of miniature paintings.

Hi Priyadarshi,
-The line of the introduction is more relevant for defining ‘OBEY’…Discipline is a bit more than obey….Discipline is the practice of training people to ‘obey rules’ or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct disobedient….It is in general way obeying and respecting the authority…Discipline cannot be in absolute terms…
-The points what discipline can lead is mentioned in general manner….talk it leads to efficiency, achieve organizational goals, increases people’s trust etc…etc…
-The rest of the points are good with good conclusion…
Over a good answer…but few modification may make it more better and excellent….Nice approach….keep it up…keep writing…

-1st page….last point….as per the SC in Kihoto Hollohan case…now it has been brought under Judicial review….
-Under steps needed to be taken….point 3….forming alliance is not bad….and its the healthy practice of any democracy….so should not be brought under Defection….
-The rest of the points are good….

Hello Imgroot,
-Introduction seems to be okay….
-Continentality…I think the more severe convective storms occur near maritime area during summer….where water is heated during the day and atmosphere is full of moisture…The mechanism behind this is that, a parcel of moisture laden air rises from earth’s surface due to intense heating to the upper layers of the atmosphere….and the phenomena of thunder storms occurs….
-Diagram is very good…and informative…and its good to present diagram in such an answer….
-The rest of the points are good with a beautiful conclusion…

Pritam Kumar

Reply to  Akshat Sikri

Hi Akshat,
Bring meaning or essence of Discipline in your own words, this is what the question require. Such as it is the practice of training people to obey rules or a code or behaviour, using punishment to correct disobey. for example: discipline is what instructs you to follow the traffic rules and in case of failure the punishment and again asked to follow. It is more like a trait of behaviour…training to behave otherwise punishment to correct behaviour.

-Under benefits…you should mention that discipline brings efficiency, effectiveness as it develops trusts of the people….etc…apart from point no 3…
-Under counter productive…point 3 seems irrelevant….or it needs more elaboration…
-The example in the conclusion shows that you have narrowly interpreted the Discipline….Kindly go through its proper meaning for further conceptual clarity….
You have the ideas but without meaning these ideas are like making castle in the air…
