Hi Pankaj
Whenever question is from polity, try to mention relevant article numbers from the constitution. It always helps in fetching more marks. For example here in the intro you could have mentioned that article 93 provides for the office of speaker and deputy speaker in the lok sabha…..

Points in the main body are good but their presentation needs work.

What are the recent controversies regarding its neutrality? Mention few recent examples.

Good points in way forward and conclusion is decent too.

Overall content wise the answer is decent but work on your presentation skills. The answers seems too much fragmented despite having all the necessary elements in it.

Conclusion is missing. Try not to miss it because its a habit which will ensure good returns from your answers.

Overall good answer.

Hi Prakhar

Its a factual question and you covered it ok.

You have to get more points in your main body of answer where you are discussing the contributions of these legends. There are plethora of examples to be given like (Gandhi) Indian opinion, Young India; (Nehru) National Herald, Glimpses of World History, An Autobiography, Letter to a daughter etc; (Dr. Ambedakar) “What the Congress and Gandhi have done to the Untouchables”, speeches etc.

The more you mention works of these leaders the better the chances of getting more marks.

Good conclusion.

In the intro, mention the article number which gives us the office of speaker (93).

Your first part of the answer is good. You have mentioned relevant article and schedule numbers to back your points.

You can remove the responsibilities discussion. Its not necessary. Instead you can discuss what are the reasons of this office losing its neutrality.

Give little bit more points in your way forward like:
In Ireland position of Speaker is given to someone who has built up credibility by relinquishing his or her political ambitions.
Also, Indian Speakers are not made members of the Rajya Sabha after they demit office.
But the British Parliament automatically elevates the Speaker to the House of Lords.
The Committee, headed by V.S. Page, suggested that if the Speaker had conducted himself or herself in an impartial and efficient manner during the tenure of his or her office, he or she should be allowed to continue in the next Parliament.
Anyone seeking the office of the Speaker might be asked to run for election on an independent ticket.
Any Speaker should be barred from future political office, except for the post of President, while being given a pension for life.

Answer ends abruptly without an apt conclusion.

There are a few suggestions regarding this answer.

Try to mention article and relevant schedule numbers in polity related questions. This lends weight to your answers and points. For example, just mention in the starting line of the intro that Article 93 of the constitution gives us the office of speaker and he continue with your intro. Similarly when you mentioned that he/she is the decision maker in anti defection rule then do mention its power comes from schedule 10. These are small things but goes a long way in making your answer better from good.

Points in the main body and Way forwards are good.

Pranab there is a suggestion which i have given to many students and you need it too regarding this particular answer.

While your points are good and explanation decent, try to mention article and relevant schedule numbers in polity related questions. This lends weight to your answers and points. For example, just mention in the starting line of the intro that Article 93 of the constitution gives us the office of speaker and he continue with your intro or in point regarding money bill just mention article 110 in bracket. These are small things but goes a long way in making your answer better from good.

Give some examples of recent allegations of impartiality mentioned by the opposition parties. For example you can mention that recent “Aadhar bill’ categorisation gave an impression that speaker is working under whims of govt.

your second part where you were supposed to give suggestions and way forward is missing. You can add points like:
In Ireland position of Speaker is given to someone who has built up credibility by relinquishing his or her political ambitions.
Also, Indian Speakers are not made members of the Rajya Sabha after they demit office.
But the British Parliament automatically elevates the Speaker to the House of Lords.
The Committee, headed by V.S. Page, suggested that if the Speaker had conducted himself or herself in an impartial and efficient manner during the tenure of his or her office, he or she should be allowed to continue in the next Parliament.

introduction is good.
you need to work on structuring answer. While you tried to cover various points and tried giving various angles to the BIt issue, your answer seemed commentary based here rather than points based.

as there are many issues and suggestions regarding BIT and you can’t mention all, so structure your answer and categorize them and try to use bullet points in these kinds of questions..

Try to be specific regarding your way forwards, Sometimes they are general in nature while question regarding them is too specific.

do add conclusion summarizing the function and importance of BITs. in current scenario. keep writing.keep improving.

Answer 1:
The British India saw a multitude of great leaders who were well educated individuals who were constantly in touch with the events happening at the global stage and also influenced with ideas and philosophies of other countries for eg. Liberty, Fraternity, Equality, Socialism, etc. They also were well read and thoughts of Voltaire, Montesquieu, Karl Marx, Adam Smith, Tolstoy and many more also had an impact on their psyche.

Leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, BR Ambedkar and Mahatama Gandhi studied abroad, pursued career as a lawyer and meanwhile also got to witness different kinds of discrimination in their lives.

Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru wrote Glimpses of World History to describe the ongoing global events and their causes which also described India and her situation during World Wars, Russian Revolution, Global Depression etc. He also wrote about the concept of socialism and its birth and expansion in India in his book India’s Independence and Social Revolution. His letters to his daughter and his chief ministers have been published widely.

Mahatma Gandhi was a prolific writer, along with books his writings are also in the form of articles, essays, journals. He also founded and edited several newpapers/ journals including Opinion. Young India and Harijan. But his first well known writing is Hind Swaraj in 1909 in which he described his approach and guide to Indian Independence and scathing critiques of Western Civilization. He then wrote Satyagraha in Africa in 1924 which put forward his ideas about the power of “passive resistance, non violence” and literally “holding firmly to the truth” as the most effective weapon to gain Swaraj. His journal “Harijan” focused on upliftment of the lower caste people and their importance in society.

Dr. B R Ambedkar is still one of the most sought writer of the present era. He also had a personal library “Rajgrah” which was considered as the world’s largest private library. He wrote on many subjects and issues of India like Economy, Social issues, caste system, minorities, Buddhism, etc. Books like “Buddha and his Dhamma”, “Manu and Shudras”, “Riddles in Hinduism”, “The Annihilation of Caste” and “Bahishkrit Bharat” depicted the unjust division of society in Hinduism, the deplorable situation of lower caste people, causes for prevalent differentiation and how he found Buddhism more pragmatic religion. He was a proficient economist too and wrote books like “The problem of the Rupee: its origin and its solution” which highlights deep seated issues in the economy of India and its currency.

The people of Modern India still find these writings relevant and inspirational. The thoughts and ideas of these leaders will continue to live on as their names.

Hi Mahesh

Work on your intro. Also give more details as in which article extablishes the office of Speaker etc.

These many points in the power and responsibility of speaker is not required. Its good that you tried to mention most of them but try to keep focus on the demands of the question. hence mention only those powers which are relevant for neutral or unbiased nature of the office of speaker like use of A 110 or 10th schedule or suspension of MPs etc…

Similarly, not many points are needed while giving issues with the role of speaker. Just mention few and move on.

While you tried to give way forward but try to mention points which are not generic. For example rather than saying that he/should uphold the value of const or give ample time to opposition parties etc, you have to write specifically what needs to be done to improve the situation and help the office of speaker. You can use points like:

In Ireland position of Speaker is given to someone who has built up credibility by relinquishing his or her political ambitions.
Also, Indian Speakers are not made members of the Rajya Sabha after they demit office. But the British Parliament automatically elevates the Speaker to the House of Lords.
The Committee, headed by V.S. Page, suggested that if the Speaker had conducted himself or herself in an impartial and efficient manner during the tenure of his or her office, he or she should be allowed to continue in the next Parliament.

Utkarsh, it is a good answer, if importance of accountability in organisation was asked but the theme of the question is: “can accountability and effectiveness exist together and what should be the desired outcome?”

Instead you discussed the importance and need of accountability in the organisation.

You started really well but in the main body of the answer you lost the track.
You should discuss the similarity and difference and issues with the accountability and effectiveness.
