• In line with the provisions of National Policy for Farmers (NPF) (2007), Ministry of Rural Development is implementing a programme exclusively for women farmers namely MKSP.
• It is a sub-component of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM).

• Plan Bee an amplifying system imitating the buzz of a swarm of honey bees to keep wild elephants away from railway tracks earned the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) the best innovation award in Indian Railways for the 2018-19 fiscal.
• A device was designed to generate the amplified sound of honey bees audible from 700-800 metres.
• The first instrument was installed at a level crossing west of Guwahati on a track adjoining the Rani Reserve Forest, an elephant habitat.
• The Plan Bee device has been helpful in diverting herds of elephants, especially when trains approach and dashing becomes imminent.
• The desperation to find an “elephant repellent” was triggered by 67 jumbos being knocked down by trains from 2013 to June 2019.
• A mix of Plan Bee and other measures have helped them save 1,014 elephants from 2014 to June 2019.

What is automated facial recognition?

• AFRS works by maintaining a large database with photos and videos of peoples’ faces.
• Then, a new image of an unidentified person — often taken from CCTV footage — is compared to the existing database to find a match and identify the person.
• The artificial intelligence technology used for pattern-finding and matching is called “neural networks”.

Artificial neural networks

• Artificial neural networks (ANN) or connectionist systems are computing systems that are inspired by, but not necessarily identical to, the biological neural networks that constitute animal brains.
• Such systems “learn” to perform tasks by considering examples, generally without being programmed with any task-specific rules.
• For example, in image recognition, they might learn to identify images that contain cats by analyzing example images that have been manually labelled as “cat” or “no cat” and using the results to identify cats in other images.
• They do this without any prior knowledge about cats, for example, that they have fur, tails, whiskers and cat-like faces.
• Instead, they automatically generate identifying characteristics from the learning material that they process.

Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS)

• The CCTNS is a project under Indian government for creating a comprehensive and integrated system for effective policing through e-Governance.
• Parent Department: Min. of Home Affairs
• The system includes nationwide online tracking system by integrating more than 15,000 police stations across the country.
• The project is implemented by National Crime Records Bureau.
• The concept of CCTNS was first conceived in the year 2008 by the then Home Minister, P. Chidambaram in the aftermath of 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Functioning of CCTNS

• CCTNS aims to integrate all the data and records of crime into a Core Application Software (CAS), which is presently spreading across 29 states and 7 union territories of India.
• CAS was developed by the Bangalore based IT firm, Wipro.
• It needs to integrate different software and platforms followed by different states and to digitise records of those states which have not digitized their police records.
• The project also involves training of police personnel and setting up of citizen portal to provide services to citizens.

• Core Banking Solution (CBS) is networking of bank branches, which allows customers to manage their accounts, and use various banking facilities from  any part of the world.
• In simple term, there is no need to visit your own branch to do banking transactions. You can do it from any location ,any time. You can enjoy banking services from any branch of the bank which is on CBS network regardless of branch you have opened your account.
• For the bank which implements CBS , the customer becomes the bank’s customer instead of customer of particular branch.
• Execution of Core banking system across all branches helps to speed up most of the common transactions of bank and customer. In Core banking , the all branches access banking applications from centralized server which is hosted in secured datacenter.
• Banking software/application performs basic operations like maintaining transactions, balance of withdrawal & payment, interest calculations on deposits & loans etc. This banking applications are deployed on centralized server & can be accessed using internet from any location.
