Q.2 For Delhi, it is always about narrow political arguments with Rawalpindi and Islamabad; it is as if the people of Pakistan do not exist. The depth of the current crises in Pakistan, however, should nudge India into overcoming this entrenched indifference. Comment. (15 marks)

1. In the intro, mention the recent breakdown of civil-military relations in Pakistan.

2. In the body, mention that India has rarely been a decisive player in Pakistan’s internal politics. Next, mention the crises through which Pakistan is going such as strained relations between government and the military, economic crisis, militant religious movements, and worsening external conditions such as downward trends in relations with the Gulf states and the West. All this should be an occasion for India to reflect on the long-term regional consequences of Pakistan’s internal turbulence.

3. Conclude by mentioning that unlike elsewhere in the neighborhood, Delhi’s leverage in Pakistan’s politics is terribly limited. But it is by no means negligible.

Nice attempt. Introduction is fine, you can mention that India’s role has been limited in internal politics of Pakistan unlike some other South Asian countries.
Points under why limited role are fine. While mentioning about crisis in Pakistan, you can use some data on economy front to add more value, also mention about weakening relations with Gulf countries vis-a-vis India. Other points are fine.

Way forward and conclusion are good, you can also briefly mention few advantages in India’s favor for meddling in Pak politics(China factor, regional peace etc).

Keep writing. 🙂

Debajyoti,

India’s role in internal affairs of neighbors is not required here, question just talks about Pakistan..so just mentioning unlike other neighbors India has been reluctant to interfere in Pakistan internal politics in introduction will suffice.

Instead, write a section on advantages for India in meddling in Pak politics(China factor, regional peace etc). Also crises in Pakistan is well written. After that you can say that, both these factors should force a rethink by Delhi on its policies vis a vis Pakistan.

Also, you can mention a way forward. There is ample scope as this is a 15 mark question.
Keep practicing. 🙂

Nandhini,

Very good answer. You have written well, covered most points. First two subsections can be combined into a single one, otherwise some points seem repeated. Also instability on its Afghan border with Taliban rule can be mentioned in crisis.
Other points are good, not much changes required.
Keep practicing. 🙂
