opinion/op-ed/has-the-first- past-the-post-system- polarised-indian-politics/ article36127365.ece - In the intro, briefly explain the system.
- In the body, mention how the working of the system in which the candidate getting the highest votes is declared a winner and the other votes turn out to be ineffective. How this could encourage polarisation. In the advantages of the system, mention its simplicity. In the suggestions mention the reforms in party politics, the option of other systems such as proportionate representation and systems in other countries such as Israel etc.
- Conclude by mentioning the electoral reforms to deal with the polarisation of Indian politics.

Nice attempt. Introduction is good, advantages are also fine- you can also mention it is cost-effective, gives chance to popular candidate to get elected even without party backing etc.
Write a bit more in disadvantages about how this can create polarisation- encourages development of ethnic parties i.e. political parties base their plans, policies in favour of particular clan, religion, region, etc.You can also mention that it may exclude minority parties, women etc from representation in Parliament if they don’t have concentration areas where their candidates can win. Also,it can result in 2 party system. Rest of the points are fine.
You can keep the proportional representation part a bit concise, suggest some other reforms like changes in party politics, revamping of anti-defection law etc also.
Again, write a concluding statement saying polarisation cannot be wished away just by changing system of election but more social, electoral reforms are required.
Keep writing. 🙂

Nice attempt. Introduction is good. In disadvantages, you can frame the 2nd point better. Lower share of votes than 50% can be mentioned, the share of votes of the winning party is usually more than any other party.

Advantages are fine, way forward is good. You can mention one point briefly about proportional representation that it can give representation to all parties, no winner takes all system.
Conclusion is also fine.
