This is a 15 marks question, so some parts need to be answered in more detail.
For example in govt initiatives, mention about targets of DPP, iDEX, ban on 101 import items.
Give some examples like IGMDP, INS Vikrant, nuclear submarine Arihant, P75 project, Dhanush artillery guns, Agni V missile etc.
Introduction is fine. After that mention a section for opportunities. Points like fiscal deficit reduction and national security can be mentioned in needs, rest can be mentioned in opportunities.
In challenges, also mention points like-
Private sector participation is very low
Manufacturing and procurement-related delay- bureaucratic and political hurdles
Conflict between the manufacturers & defence forces regarding the design, capacity etc of the defence equipment.
Rest of the points are fine.
Conclusion is good. Keep practicing.
Note- Since it’s a two month program last date to write answers is July 30th. All the questions will be evaluated latest by August 5th.
After that this program will end as we need to focus on Prelims. So write all the answers before 30th.
So that we can wind up the program. 🙂

This is a 15 marks question, you need to increase your content. Try writing in 3 pages as in the exam.
Introduction is fine, you can add that idigenisation is essential in the light of our national security as our borders are hostile and porous, need to reduce fiscal deficit can also be mentioned.
In opportunities both points are good, you can also mention – generation of employment, will boost Indian exports and generate forex reserve, will increase the trust and confidence of the Indian defence forces.
After that mention challenges, better to structure answer according to the question. In challenges you need to discuss the challenges faced in achieving the indigenisation of defence production and not what will go wrong if we indigenize. Some points you can mention-
Private sector participation is very low
Manufacturing and procurement-related delay- bureaucratic and political hurdles
Conflict between the manufacturers & defence forces regarding the design, capacity etc of the defence equipment
No dispute settlement body
Most of the govt. expenditure is on salaries, retirement benefits, perks and benefits, MRO of equipment etc. This limits the government capacity to focus on long-term budgeting towards the defence sector
Mention govt initiatives in a bit detail. Defence Procurement Policy, E-Biz portal, import ban on 101 items etc all need to be mentioned. Give some examples like IGMDP, INS Vikrant, nuclear submarine Arihant, P75 project, Dhanush artillery guns, Agni V missile etc.
In way forward mention the need to implement the Shaketkar committee recommendations, aset up arbitration forums etc
Read some more about the topic, keep practicing. 🙂

Content is good, structure the answer better. The answer should feature three sections- challenges, opportunities and government initiatives prominently.
Introduction is fine, examples are also good but keep it short, no need mention full details of who manufactured where, just incorporate examples, their utility and move on. Need part is also fine. Last two points can be mentioned in opportunities.
Challenges part is good, you can also mention the lack of a dispute settlement body, land acquisition issues etc
Then mention government initiatives- write a bit about DPP, E-Biz portal,iDEX framework etc. Also mention about ban on 101 import items. This part should be addressed properly as it has been exclusively asked. Keep the suggestions part small. Also write a concluding statement to end the answer.
Keep practicing.

Introduction is fine. Then mention a section on why we need indigenisation of defence- points like reducing India’s Fiscal Deficit can be mentioned here only. You can add– national security at risk- India shares porous borders with hostile neighbours, indigenous equipment will increase the trust and confidence of the Indian defence forces.
Challenges part is good, you can mention that there is no dispute settlement body, most of the govt. expenditure is on salaries, retirement benefits, perks and benefits, MRO of equipment etc. This limits the government capacity to focus on long-term budgeting towards the defence sector. Also there is a conflict between the manufacturers & defence forces regarding design, capacity etc of equipment.
In opportunities also mention – generation of employment, will boost Indian exports and generate forex reserve, will improve our strategic capability.
Government initiatives are also good. Give some examples like INS Vikrant, nuclear submarine Arihant, P75 project, Dhanush artillery guns, Agni V missile etc.
Way forward and conclusion are fine. Keep practicing.
