INS Nilgiri

Significance of the Triple Commissioning

  • Pioneering Milestone: This is the first time a destroyer, a frigate, and a submarine have been commissioned together in the Navy’s history.
  • Indigenous Development: All three platforms were indigenously designed and constructed, reflecting India’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
  • Strategic Impact:
    • Enhances India’s maritime deterrence capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
    • Bolsters the Navy’s capacity to counter regional threats and secure India’s strategic interests.
